But Arete wasn't born with a master plan. It started like so many great things do: with a leap of faith, a small condo in Bryan, Texas… and no profit.
From Humble Hustle to Relentless Execution
Back in 2020, Jake and Chad just wanted to flip a house or two — maybe make a little money, maybe learn a thing or two along the way. They didn't expect that first flip to be break even, but where most would have called it quits, they leaned in.
What followed was a four-year sprint: flipping over 60 homes, diving deep into the trenches of acquisition, renovation, project management, and design. They built sweat equity not just into properties, but into their knowledge, instincts, and network. That grind is what transformed a side hustle into a serious operation.
It wasn't long before flipping wasn't enough. They saw inefficiencies — gaps between agents, investors, contractors, and managers. So they decided to build the company they wished existed. That's when Arete began to evolve into what it is today: a vertically integrated real estate company focused on brokerage, development, construction, and property management — with unified systems and shared values driving everything.

Today, Arete Companies has brokered over $75 million in real estate transactions, developed or redeveloped $35 million of missing-middle housing, and has $20 million more in active pipeline — spanning single-family infill, multifamily clusters, townhome communities, and more.
Why vertical integration? Because we believe that excellence can't be outsourced. The only way to truly uphold standards across design, build, lease-up, and asset performance — is to take full ownership of the process. So we did.
